The Villages Florida Area Real Estate: Today's Free Staging Tip

Today's Free Staging Tip

Today's Free Staging TipChip Cabinet

Yes, I like staging tips that don't cost much or any money but that have a big impact.  Previously I have talked about making sure your house sparkles, Low Cost Staging Tips, and No Cost Staging Tip

I have another tip that costs nothing but time and makes Goodwill smile.  You need to clean out the cabinets and drawers in your kitchens and baths.  I know it isn't fun, but it makes them look so much better.  Yes, buyers look in there!  If not now, they will when it comes time for the inspection. Think of all those kitchen gadgets you own that you never have used or don't usNot So Junky Junk Drawere any more.  Maybe you don't even remember they are there because the are so far back in the cabinet.  Do you really want to move them if you haven't used them for years?

The Junk Drawer in your kitchen really doesn't have to look junky.  Do you really need five phone books when you haven't used any of them for years becauseyou Google everything?

So take a look in those cabinet and drawers and see what you can live without.  You will be glad you did it in the long run!

Great tip.  And, I love the price.  And, less packing for later.

I have done this for a remodel.  It's really amazing how much we accumulate over the years!  Even if you are not moving, this is really good advice!!

Very good advice for home sellers.  It is a real challenge to get rid of clutter that has been in place for many years.

 Blooming for you!

Hi Debbie - It is amazing the things we will move because they are there!

Hi Bridget - It is a good idea for anyone, but without motivation, cabinets and drawers are not usually at the top of the "to do" list.  : )

Hi Roy - It certainly is a challenge.  There is always something more exciting to do than clean out cabinets or sort through our belongings for things we don't need anymore.

Chris--Great advice and I know I should do what you are saying one drawer/cupboard at a time, but I am a procrastinator.  I think I will wait until I put my home on the market.  But I will share with my clients!

Hi Pat - If you scheduled one cabinet or cupboard per day, just think how much junk you will be without in just a week's time!  I know, it isn't very exciting!

Chris -- You're right. They have to be cleaned out anyway. Do it before listing and get ahead of the game. I like your plan for one a day.

Hi Barbara - We all know how overwhelming a task can be.  If you break it down to small "bite size" pieces, it isn't quite so bad.  : )  It is also so rewarding when it is done!!

Hi Chris,

This is a great staging tip.  Yes, buyer's look everywhere!!!  If your cupboards and cabinet's and even closet's are full buyers feel that there is not enough space in a home and move on to one that looks spacious and looks like it has more square footage!  Great Post!

Great tip - and actually I probably should do that with my own house anyway. And you are SO on the mark with the phone books!! I'm guilty of that. :-P

Chris, Great tips - especially the price.  But I need the 12 phone books to hold down the 50 old menus for fast food places. LOL

Chris, cleaning out the junk drawer(s) is an all-day job! We started with one junk drawer, and now we have two. Guess I had better get them cleaned out before we start a third one!

Chris, WHAT, no junk drawer?    Good idea when your home is for sale!    Thanks for the tip!

Hi Linda - I love it when stagers like my tips!  : )

Hi Mykel - If you need a doorstop, phone books can be handy--but that is about it.

Hi Deborah - It is good to set goals, and better yet to achieve them!  : )

Hi Gary - True--it is a good way for them to stay flat.

Hi Rose - I only pictured ONE of my junk drawers.  : )  They are all much lighter on the junk now, however.

Hi Joan - It's a good thing not too have too much junk at any time, but about the only time we really think about it is when we are selling.

Definitely a great tip, my own kitchen junk drawer could use some attention, last time I looked there's plenty I haven't used or needed in years!

Hi Diane - The junk drawers do have a habit of refilling though, unfortunately.  : )
