The Villages Florida Area Real Estate: Celebrating Cinco De Mayo in my Yard

Celebrating Cinco De Mayo in my Yard

Celebrating Cinco De Mayo in my Yard

When my wife wished me a Happy Cinco De Mayo this morning, I thought I might be looking forward to a wonderful Mexican dinner this evening (we have a number of favorite Mexican meals).  But as the time drew closer, it became evident that there would be many dinner interruptions (an offer coming in and discussions with another client about a price reduction), so we decided that we would have hamburgers and defer the "celebration" until Sunday evening when it tends to be a bit quieter.

Our animal life around the yard thought there was no reason for them to postpone their celebration, so I snapped a few shots.  Always the first birds of the day and the last of the evening . . . Mr. and Mrs. Cardinal were joined by a few bright goldfinch.

Cardinals and Goldfinch

And earlier in the day, chipmunk decided to grab a little early celebration while the sun was shining . . .

Happy Cinco De Mayo everyone!

Sweet photos, Chris - I hope you get your Mexican meal!  (Our winged critters were also enjoying the feeders)

Hi Roy - A very wonderful weekend to you as well!

Hi Karen - Great photos!  We have had a pileated woodpecker hanging around our yard lately, but I haven't been able to get anywhere close enough to get a photo like you captured!

Chris,

Isn't it great to know that our feathered friends and nearby critters never have to make a reservation, nor are they picky about what they want to eat - they are just happy to have whatever is put in front of them. We watch them with amazement and they make us happy. Is that because they appreciate the simple life?

I do hope you and your wife take a raincheck and get to enjoy Cinco De Mayo.

Your backyard has to be a slice of Heaven on earth!

Hi Chris,

I do hope it will be YOU chefing up the Mexican meal on Sunday - since it is Mother's Day. :)

Hi Patricia - We try to make our yard very bird friendly so that the birds enjoy their time and we enjoy the birds.

Hi Lisa - Whoops--neither one of us thought of that when we decided to reschedule to Sunday.  Maybe we will turn it over to the kids!

As always Chris, great shots!  I am going to try to be better at keeping my camera handy instead of my phone.  We have been having some visitors that we normally do not see and I would love to have some pictures to share.  We have blue jays daily, but today one of them fooled me---he was making a noise I have never heard them make---almost like a human laugh.  Boy did I feel dumb when I realized from where the sound was coming!

Hi Pat - It is amazing the sounds that birds make.  Sometimes the Blue Jays sound like a hawk coming in for the kill--rather frightening.  Today while my wife and I were in the yard, she said "is that a Red Winged Blackbird I hear?" (usually we only see them by the local reservoir).  Sure enough we spotted one.  I love all the different sounds the Cardinal makes--especially the one that the male makes when he is telling the female it is time to come home for the evening.  : )

Charles:  What great pictures... and how very, very restful.  Love the Cardinal couple, and the Goldfinch.  And that cute lil chipmunk.  How fortunate you are to be right in the middle of some of Mother Nature's wonderful creatures.  Enjoy !

Hi Karen Anne - We love all of our birds, but the Cardinals are very much favorites.  They are together almost all the time, but sometimes the male has to remind the female to join him.  He has a special song at that time.  We enjoy the antics of the chipmunks--they always bring a smile to your face!

Hi Chris, Good to be busy with business and enjoy a great meal without being rushed on another day.  You have a wonderful setting.  Gold and red at the same time!  How nice.

All the best with things.
