The Villages Florida Area Real Estate: Here is a Clue: Miss Scarlet Did It With a Leaf in the Beech Tree

Here is a Clue: Miss Scarlet Did It With a Leaf in the Beech Tree

Okay, so this is not a murder mystery but a bird mystery!  You never know what you might see flying around my yard from wood ducks to hummingbirds to a hawk with ruffled feathers to the doves they so love to feast upon.  This weekend a new resident moved in, just after our first spring sighting of our hummingbirds.  This one was a new one for us, but we guessed immediately what it was--just had to confirm with the Sibley's Guide.  A Scarlet Tanager!

Of course we had to immediately text my brother-in-law who lives less than a mile away "Saw a Tanager today!"  And got the reply message, "You certainly see more interesting birds than we!"  You are never too old for sibling rivalry!

Wonder what bird sighting tomorrow will bring?

What a vibrant color!  Right now I'm listening to our birds singing outside my window.  Only problem is they like to sing early, really early!

Chris, That's great, a really red guy in the beech tree!  I've never seen one other than in photos.  Hopefully they will have a nest in your yard soon!  Makes me think of Baltimore Orioles that are orange with black wings.  Great your brother-in-law is into birds too!  Most people think I'm crazy when I get excited about a bird.

How are things going with your house?

Hi Wanda - It was very fortunate that this guy was so vibrant or we never would have seen him.  At first we thought it was one of our many cardinals, but black wings?!  The weather has been warmer so the windows have been open at night . . . those birds are definitely early risers!!

Hi Gloria - The bird hung out in our yard all weekend, but today was rather dreary and we never saw him. Hopefully he was busy nesting! Speaking of nests, traffic on our house has been brisk, but at our price range most have something to sell first.  One or two second showings . . . a good sign.

I always enjoy your photographs. I'll be watching for your spring flower shots.

Chris,

How lucky are you! I hope this is a good omen!

I've only seen one once when I was a volunteer at a Forest Preserve but there was no photo taken. I'm so glad you got one! If anyone deserves to capture a Scarlet Tanager it's YOU!

Hi Joan - Thanks!  Haven't been able to spend much time in the home office lately with the showings and second showings.  Not complaining, though!

Hi Patricia - It's always fun to have a camera handy when you just happen to see something cool!!

Red, my favorite and looks like a good-sized bird. I don't think I have ever seen on in the wild either; nice shot.

Hi Teral - Red is a great color for a bird, but I am used to seeing it on Cardinals, so this bird rather surprised me.  Thanks for commenting!

Wow, neat. We don't have Scarlet Tanagers here in Victoria.

Hi Ted - Before this past weekend, I would have sworn we didn't have them here, either!
