The Villages Florida Area Real Estate: What a Difference A Day Makes!

What a Difference A Day Makes!

What a Difference a Day Makes!

I rolled out of bed at 6 A.M. today as our kitchen was getting a makeover, and the counter folks were coming at 6:50 (on a Saturday?).  When I got downstairs, I smelled the coffee and saw flashes coming from the kitchen--my wife was already there taking goodbye pictures of the Corian counters . . .

Both of us were wondering if this was really what we wanted to do . . . but by 7 A.M., it was a little late to turn back!

No Countertops!

And by 10 A.M. the new counters were in . . .

And one of the best things about the day?  We found a new home for our old counters, so they are NOT going into a landfill!!  Now we just need to do some touch-up painting and get the plumbing redone (notice no faucet).  Plumber comes Monday!

Your kitchen looks terrific! It really is amazing how changing just one thing can make a huge impact on a space and in your case, it was done in no time! Enjoy it!

Hi Chris, It sounds like you are pleased all around!  Yes what a difference a day makes for a make over!  Enjoy!  Great story with photos.

Hi Shannon - We intend to enjoy it!  : )  I was noticing that we didn't turn on one light for the "after" shots.  I guess we were just relying on the sun which obviously was still pulling itself out of bed at 6 A.M. during the "before" shots!

Thanks Gloria - It was amazing how quickly things got done!

It looks great! You must be happy with your decision. And tomorrow morning, while enjoying your cup of coffee, you will really love the new look of your kitchen:)

What a great facelift. With the cost of granite being so reasonable it makes good sense to "just do it".

Hi Joanna - It will be even better when we don't have to take the dishes to the basement to wash them (even the dishwasher is unhooked), but this is so much quicker than the last time we did work in the kitchen!

Hi Ellie - And you know that granite is what every buyer wants these days!

Chris, it is amazing that all of that work got done so quickly. Your new kitchen countertops look great!

Chris - Excellent upgrade!!!  I build houses and granite is the go-to countertop!  I have to say that I LOVE all the windows in your kitchen...NICE!

Hi Chris, Love the photo journey from Corian to granite and not even a speck of dust. Those are my kind of tradesmen. Beautifully done makeover.

Hi Rose - Yes, all the prep work was done before today.  Measuring with a really cool computer set up, all the cuts and great finishing was done at their shop, and then they showed up today and got the job done.

Hi Denise - When we bought the house, it had only one small window in the kitchen.  We wanted to get the sunshine to come in, so we redesigned the kitchen 9 years ago.

Hi Nancy - Thanks very much!

Hi Roy - One of the kids just got home from college today, so there has to be home cooking!  Life in the kitchen goes on; dishes get washed in the basement.  : )

Hi William - The craftsmen doing this job are perfectionists.  They come in, do the work, and leave it looking like no one was there!  They take absolute pride in their work!

Chris,

What a gorgeous Kitchen.  Everything now looks great... even the tile on the floor looks better in the after pictures.  Thanks for sharing your journey from Corian Counter Tops to Granite with us!!!

Excellent.  I love them.  Good choice on granite - ties in the color of the cabinets and it's light.  Glad you found a home for the old ones.

Your kitchen is beautiful, Chris. And, think of all the exercise you're getting going to the basement to wash the dishes!

Chris, the transformation is GREAT, and love the color of your granite!    I too have white countertops, and being a VERY clean person, they make me crazy!    Love your large kitchen!

Hi Linda - I agree that the granite really brings it together (even though we really did love our Corian).

Hi Debbie - The room was a cave when we bought the house 9 years ago!  When we put that Corian in under all the new recessed lights on the new cabinets, it was like a spotlight had been installed.  So light and bright!  But alas, the counter of choice these days is granite.  We are very happy with the choice (it HAD to be light in color), and we are very pleased that someone wanted to adopt the old counters!

Hi Toni - Lots of stair stepping today!  : )  Can't wait for the plumber to arrive tomorrow!

Thanks Joshua - We enjoy the kitchen very much--it is very functional!

Hi Roy - I hope you enjoyed the colors in your last home!  A great week to you!!

Hi Joan - Glad you like it.  We really liked our old countertops, but as you say, white is tough to keep clean.  But when it IS clean, it looks SOOOO clean!

Chris, your post is so positive in making me think a kitchen redo is possible in our home. The "before" and "after" pictures made it all see so easy! Congratulations! Your new kitchen is a gem.

Hi Emily - When you have the right craftspeople, the job can be easy.  Pick the wrong ones, and you get a nightmare.  Rather like Realtors as your mother would say.  : )

Before you take the plunge, get reliable references!!  My granite work was done by one of my past clients.  I knew he did wonderful work, because I saw it in the condominium I sold for him.

The new counter tops looks very pretty!  I bet your wife will miss that seamless sink though.  Glad to hear you recycled and found a home for the old ones.

Hi Georgina - She did love that seemless sink, but the undermount stainless sink isn't too bad, either!
