Every Cloud has a Silver Lining . . .
It is getting harder for anyone but a child to find a silver lining in the relentless snow Connecticut has had this winter! With daily shoveling, roof raking, and icicle removal, almost any homeowner will say enough is enough!
But while out shoveling I noticed that my birdfeeders now have a mountain of white behind them (once known as a large shrub), so this gave me the opportunity to take some fun photos of my feathered friends.
I thought I would share my silver lining . . .
I hope others are finding a silver lining as well!
I just took 5 minutes and watched the birds and squirrels. That's for reminding me of the bright side of this winter weather!
hi Chris - I enjoy watching birds too. Sometimes it's hard to find the silver lining with all this snow and we are getting more tomorrow!!!!
I love bird watching.....you guys sure have gotten pounced on this year with snow! Since I returned home we have had very little snow...a bit of rain and lots of dreary inversion clouds but no snow!
My husband on the other hand has came home to a lot of snow...and they are supposed to get hammered tomorrow night! Uuggghhhh
Stay warm!
Hi Laura - Well, another "bright side" is when the sun comes out a bit and softens up the ice so we can chop away more of it. Not the bright spot you were looking for though, right? : ) Enjoy the birds--they take it in stride!
Hi Peggy - More snow tomorrow, and more winter mix on Wednesday. I need to add a few bird feeders close to the house so I can just watch them and ignor the snow!
Hi Deborah - I never thought I would say it, but I could really get into dreary clouds as long as there was no snow (but please, not both!!). Here's another invitation to all you bird lovers . . . why not join the Activerain Birds Group!?
Chris, oh how I miss my birdfeeders, and so do my cats. :( Thank you for the wonderful photos!
I guess if I had cats, I wouldn't want to temp the birds into my yard. : ) The birds are my pets now (until I get an English Bulldog again).
Great photos of the birds, I love bird feeders and watching them. I am glad you found a silver lining with the incredible weather you have been having.
Chris, even the birds say enough is enough! Glad you keep the bird feeders full! Great photos. We are finally getting some REALLY cold air here in Denver. Tomorrow is to be below zero AS THE HIGH for the day! We have little snow though!
Hi Sharon - The birds remind me not to take like too seriously. Do you follow their tweets?
Hi Joan - I can only imagine how sick everyone is going to get with your extremes in weather! A 50 degree range in one week? But I guess I would still trade you our snow . . .
Good shots. Enjoy the snow!
The colors of January in Kentlands. Life is good in Montgomery County, Maryland!
Thanks Roy - If I had a camera like yours I wouldn't need the white backdrop! Someday . . .
Chris--Yes indeedy! That while backdrop makes the birds show up even better and look even prettier! I have to tell you that I have cats and they do not bother the birds. I am not sure at all why it is, but it is!
Chris, I love your "silver lining" in this blog post...now THAT is something we don't see every day and the birds are quite thankful, I'm sure! Thanks for capturing this in a photo and sharing it with us! :)
Leilani
Hi Chris,
Great pics. If those little guys can survive this harsh winter, so can we. Spring will be here before we know it. Although the snow is hard on business... that is probably the main reason I look forward to milder temps.
Lisa
Hi Pat - You probably feed your cats the proper amount, so they don't need to snack on the birds. : )
Hi Leilani - I am sure you have very happy birds because they don't have the worries of all the snow our birds are experiencing!
Hi Lisa - I am not sure Spring will be here before we know it, but it will get here eventually. I would have to say that this will be one of the most anticipated springs in Connecticut in many a year!
Chris, It is nice to watch the birds in the snow. Nice photos!
Gloria
Hi Gloria - It sure beats watching the snow come down and down and down! : ) Thanks!
Hi Chris, Great outlook on your part, it now has the Featured Star in the Bird Group!
Gloria
Thanks Gloria! We certainly love our birds!
Hi Chris, I just joined the group and glad to see your post featured . Way to go! I was out at 5:30 this morning to get shots of a few of the birds visiting the neighborhood. Between 5:30 and 6:30 the birds seem to be very active.
Hi William - Glad you joined the group! Hopefully more will now do the same. Yes, the birds in my yard do some heavy-duty eating early in the morning, so I have to be sure the feeders are full before I go to bed. : )
Chris,
I just joined the group too. Great photos of the birds and just love the size of your feeder. How often do you fill it up? It sure looks like it gets a lot of action!
Hi Linda - Welcome to the Birds Group! That's my "small" feeder. I fill both feeders once every day to day and a half. My yard is the Grand Central for Birds lately. I guess others in the area are not able to get to their feeders.

Chris,
What a nice and thoughtful post about the silver lining. Despite the harsh winter, you found the silver lining and it was worth it!
I'm glad you've had a break in the winter and that spring is now on the way from when this post was written. You weathered the winter storms - now it's time to get excited about spring and summer.
Patricia
Hi Patricia - Well, we had two more inches of snow last night to put a nice coat over the dirty snow drifts, so it looks better now. Hopefully the groundhog is right and spring will be "early," but Connecticut is known to get storms into April on occasion--so I'm afraid we could have more in store. : ) Here's hoping NOT!
